This FREE series of special mini-events is designed to showcase the wide variety of music available, with something for all tastes.
There’s no such thing as bad music – just whether or not it’s performed well – so put aside any prejudgments you may have about various musical styles and try something different!
Kicking off the afternoon of musical marvellousness is ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ from 12.30pm to 1.30pm at The Talbot Inn, High Street. There will be a selection of up-tempo rhythm and blues and rare Northern Soul classics from legendary labels such as Stax and Tamla Motown.
‘Viva Verdi’ takes place at The Yews in the High Street from 1pm to 2pm. Hosted by impresario Martin McEvoy there will be the chance to hear and see some of the greatest scenes from the world of opera. Martin promises an hour of power, passion, politics and pasta (with vino)!
‘Roots in the Garden’ at The Talbot from 1.30pm to 3.30pm brings Reggae to Gretton, playing music from the golden era of Jamaican ska, rocksteady, roots, dub, funk and dancehall.
Then promising you satisfaction (perhaps even moves like Jagger?!) is the ‘Honky Tonk Café’ at Barn House in the High Street from 2pm to 4pm. A jukebox packed with vinyl 45s of The Rolling Stones’ hits is yours for the listening, accompanied by a glass of wine (or tea if preferred).
Follow the drum beats down to the Village Green from 2pm to 4pm where there’s ‘African Drumming for All’.
‘The Men from F.U.N.K.L.E’ (aka DJs Mark and Ian) will be at The Talbot Inn from 3.30pm to 6.30pm. They only have one rule – whatever they play, it’s got to be FUNKY! So get on down and strut your funky stuff.
